THE IMPORTANCE OF MOVING YOUR BODY:

Honoring God Through Motion

Motion that Honors God
Our bodies were never designed to sit still all day long. We wake up and immediately movement becomes part of who we are: walking, stretching, breathing, living. God designed our bodies to move, to be strong, and to carry us through the purpose He has for our lives. But in a world full of screens, schedules, and constant sitting, it’s easy to forget just how powerful simple movement can be in keeping our physical, mental, and spiritual health in shape.
Movement Is Medicine

One of the best things you can do to take care of yourself is to move your body. It aids in blood circulation, strengthens muscles, and keeps your heart healthy. More regular physical activity also improves your mood, decreases anxiety, and releases endorphins-those natural “feel good” chemicals that give us energy and peace.
You don’t need to spend hours in the gym to feel the benefits. Even a brisk walk, a short stretch, or a dance session in your living room can make a difference. What matters is consistency: moving your body a little bit every day.

How I Incorporate Movement Into My Routine
Movement for me is not only about fitness goals, but it’s about feeling alive, taking care of my body given by God. I want to move with intention each day by:
A morning walk to clear my mind and say my prayers
A quick strength workout at home or the gym
A stretching session before bed to unwind
Or even just taking the stairs instead of the elevator.
These small acts build up over time and help me ground myself and feel focused and energized.
The Mind-Body Connection
Movement isn’t simply physical; it directly affects our mental and emotional state. By moving, we release tension stored within our muscles, deepen our breathing, and quiet our minds. Exercise is a manner of worship, a mode of expressing thanks, a pattern of self discipline all leading back to the thought that these bodies of ours were created to do good work.
As Philippians 4:13 reminds us,
“I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”
That includes the strength to move, grow, and take care of ourselves daily.
Start Where You Are
The key is to start small and stay consistent. If you haven’t moved much lately, try adding just 10-15 minutes of light movement into your day. Go for a walk after dinner, stretch in the morning, or take a moment to breathe deeply and thank God for your body’s ability to move. In time, that small habit will become a lifestyle that fuels your energy and strengthens your spirit.
Final Thoughts
Movement is a form of stewardship-a way to take care of this incredible body God has entrusted to you. Whether it’s a full workout or simply choosing to stay active throughout your day, every step counts. Move with gratitude, move with intention, and move in a way that glorifies God.
“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31
